We are so excited about our spring 2012 workshops!!

Freeform Crochet

Time: 1 – 3pm
Cost: $35 (+hst)
Instructor: Kirsten Zerbini

Freeforming is a form of fibre art that lets you create fantastically colourful and textured fabric that can be used for all sorts of things like blankets, wall hangings, handbags, pillow covers, hats, or tea cozies. In this workshop, take out your hooks and needles, and “take your yarn for a walk” as freeformer Jenny Dowd likes to say. Crochet is the preferred technique (and the one covered in this class), but knitting makes a welcome addition, as does felting, embroidery, and macramé.
You will need to know basic crochet techniques (and some knitting helps too), but you can freeform with a range of skills from the rudimentary to the advanced.
Freeforming is best done with a large variety of yarns at hand, the more colours and textures the better. If you would like to bring your stash, you’re welcome to, or you can use the instructor-provided materials, which consist of mostly hand dyed and handspun yarn, for a cost of $15 per student (separate from class fee)
To see examples of freeform work, see the instructor’s Pinterest board: http://pinterest.com/2sistersstring/freeform-crochet/
Materials needed:
  1. Any yarn you like, and bring your stash! Freeforming is the perfect use for tiny bits of interesting yarn. Bring yarn to swap – the more variety, the better.
  2. A variety of hooks and/or needles in different sizes. If you are bringing knitting needles, short needles are the easiest to use.
  3. A small pair of scissors.

Time: 6:30 – 8pm
Cost: $25 (+hst)

Instructor: Sylvia Mcfadden
Description: Learn all the basics for knitting a top-down triangle lace shawl (without the complicated lace insert patterning).
