The Secrets of Innovation and the Courage to Invent
A Workshop with Sylvia Olsen
Date: Saturday, April 21
Time: 1 – 3pm
Cost: $45 (+hst) yarn is included in price
Did you know you can learn to be innovative? The art and craft of turning what you see and what you dream into your own unique creations.
Sylvia learned along the way to follow a knitting pattern but soon she was using them for bits and pieces-a bit from one and pieces of another-to come up with what her imagination was telling her to knit. Over her more than forty years of knitting she has begun to document how her innovation takes place and realizes it’s something she can share and can easily be learned. She draws on the amazing Cowichan sweaters, Fair Isle knitting techniques, and knitting practices from around the world, but she also is inspired by piles of sticks, clouds, tea cosies and Persian rugs. Participants will be practicing these techniques while making fingerless gloves.
Come and join Sylvia and be inspired and learn some secrets about how to turn your inspirations into something beautiful.
With two sticks and a string, and rudimentary knitting skills you can design and construct wonderful yarn creations.
