Mittens, Mittens!

December 12, 2012

If you consider yourself an intermediate knitter, here is a fantastic gift idea that shouldn’t take more than a few hours or days…and a perfect gift for those loved ones who live in cooler climates!  Thrummed mittens hail from Newfoundland and Labrador, where cozy warm mittens are more important than for us here on the wet-coast. It’s a great way to use up small amounts of leftover yarn and fleece. The Yarn Harlot has a great tutorial on doing thrummed mittens here.  And if you want a fantastic free pattern check out this one.

All the little people in my life are getting cozy thrummed mittens from me! I was able to do some cute combo’s of yarn and colorful corriedale roving. Stop by the shop and check out the amazing colour combo’s you could put together!

Another great idea is the smitten advent from Knit Picks. It’s an adorable string of 24 mini mittens, that look cute as a garland. Are great to hang on a tree, and are super fun to fill with little treats everyday.  I’ve knitted 16 so far, I’m trying to stay ahead by at least a few days. But it would be a fantastic gift idea…also a great way to use up leftover yarn!
