Toe Up Socks with Holli Yeoh

This toe-up sock class is a skill building opportunity to knit socks with completely replaceable heels and toes. In the first week we’ll tackle the beautifully invisible Turkish cast-on and learn about knitting placeholder stitches so the heel can be worked at the end of the project. Take this opportunity to learn a “new-to-you” technique for working in the round: two circular needles, one long circular needle for the Magic Loop technique or double pointed needles.

Your assignment between classes is to knit like the wind so you’re ready for week two where you’ll learn a stretchy, sewn bind off with no sewing. Then we’ll remove the placeholder stitches and knit the heel. We’ll complete the sock by grafting on the needles.

You may knit a sock of any size, but plan to have the foot and ankle completed before the second class. If you’re knitting a sock for someone else, come to class with the foot circumference and foot length (not shoe size).

Skills needed: participants should have experience knitting in the round
